History of Listicles:-
Most people believe listicles to be a fairly recent phenomenon, but they have been around for a long time. Just think of the Ten Commandments as the listicle of all listicles. It’s still being shared and followed after all this time.

Sei Shonagon, poet and lady-in-waiting to the Empress Teishi in 10th century Japan was an avid listicle writer. She created a book of poetry in list form called The Pillow Book. The Pillow Book is a collection of observations on life in the Heian Court. It covers subjects like “Things That Quicken the Heart,” “Awkward Things,” and “Things Later Regretted.”

Martin Luther penned a list of propositions for an academic disputation in 1517 entitled “The Ninety-Five Theses” during his tenure as professor of moral theology at the University of Wittenberg, Germany. Nailed to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, it contained the 95 revolutionary opinions that would mark the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
Is listicle a blog or article:-

listicle is a type of blog post that consists of several short pointers on a subject.

Typically, the points are arranged in list form with numbered subheadings and images. The articles are usually written in a concise and to-the-point manner. In short, a listicle is a type of list-based blog post that is structured like an outline. The “list” at the beginning of the post is followed by brief paragraphs of “summary.”

A listicle is a type of blog post that includes a list at the end of the article. The listicle format is also known as a “blog list” or “articles with a list.” Usually, they are short, consisting of three to five items. Listicle blogs are typically accompanied by a set of tags. These tags help Google understand the content type, making it easier for the search engine to index the blog.

In addition, it also makes it easier for readers to find related posts, as some of the tags used for listicle blogs are related to specific topics. A listicle is often used as a means to summarize and explain a wide range of topics quickly and to a wider audience. It is also used to promote products or services, inform readers about events, or provide advice on a topic.

What's the listicles really mean,

Listicles are themed, information-packed articles that break down a complex topic into skimmable and bitesize chunks to inform readers.

Why are listicles so popular?

  • Easy to understand because each subheading dives deep into a single topic.
  • Easy to approach because readers know how many items there are from the title.
  • Easy to skim because listicles break down important information into a scannable format.

Popularity shouldn’t guarantee list format articles a place in your editorial calendar. What should is the content marketing value they bring with them. Any content either offers tactical value to readers by solving particular problems or strategic value by assisting decision-makers with frameworks and actionable advice.

Listicles fall in the first category as they don’t share novel ideas or innovative concepts. They aim to offer a 360° view of potential solutions, serve informational search intent, and compound traffic with unique visits.
